2006 SEASON AUDITIONS - Artistic Director, Jordan Merkur

The Long Weekend by Norm Foster
Director: Jordan Merkur.  
Set Designer: Mary Spyrakis 
In this comedy, the truth and lies of a fifteen-year friendship come to
the surface during a weekend visit between two couples.
Rehearsals: begin May 29 - rehearsing for 2 weeks in Toronto
Performances: June 14 to July 1 - Tuesday through Saturday - opening
night June 16 Casting: 
Max Trueman: (35-40) a successful lawyer, affluent, cultured,
sophisticated, neat, has had affairs, dreams of leaving everything
behind and escaping to Martinique. 
Wynn Trueman (35- 40) Max's wife - a psychologist, analytical,
practical, gourmet cook, tends to nag, a drinker, threw a party to show
how open minded she was when she found out Max was cheating. She writes
pop psychology books. 
Roger Nash (35-40) an ex-math teacher and now an aspiring screenwriter,
neurotic, paranoid, feels he came from a dysfunctional home because his
mother left her pink Mary Kay car in the driveway. Wants to experience
life more fully. 
Abby Nash (35-40) Roger's wife - clothing shop owner, less sophisticated
than Wynn, sarcastic, emotional, hates to cook, a slob, can be lots of
fun and carefree. 

Lend Me a Tenor by Ken Ludwig
Director: Jordan Merkur.  
Set Designer: Tanit Mendes
This classic farce, set in 1934, follows the antics which occur when
Tito Merelli, a world famous Italian Tenor is set to perform at the
Cleveland Opera and everything goes terribly wrong.
Rehearsals: begin July 10 - rehearsing for 2 weeks in Toronto
Performances: July 27 to August 12 - Tuesday to Saturday - opening night
July 28 
Casting: 
Max (mid 30's) assistant to the general manager, aspiring tenor, nerdy
but appealing, tense, (sings a few brief operatic selections in the
play) ends up replacing Tito as "Otello". 
Saunders (mid 50's) general manager of Cleveland Opera, authoritarian,
caustic, grand, protective of his daughter Maggie, impatient. 
Tito Merelli (40's) a world famous tenor, speaks with a thick Italian
accent, imposing, passionate, melodramatic, lusts after most women
(sings a few brief operatic passages in the play) 
Bellhop (20's) constantly bursts into selections from famous operas, he
is a true Tito fan Maggie (20's)
Max's girlfriend, pretty, quirky, romantic, rapturously fond of Italian
Opera singers. Diana (mid 30's) beautiful and sexy soprano, demanding,
manipulative, anxious to impress Tito Maria (30-40) 
Tito's wife, speaks with Italian accent, Sophie Loren type, busty,
proud, excitable, volatile. 
Julia (60's) very grand, eccentric, the Chairman of the Opera Guild,
tries to seduce Tito

Sides will be provided from the script in advance

- January 26, 27, Feb 1 - Bloor Street United Church , Toronto (Bloor
and Huron, just east of Spadina)
- January 30, 31 Tarragon Theatre - 30 Bridgman Avenue  (north of
Dupont, east of Bathurst)
- Call Backs: Feb 6 & 8 at Bloor Street United Church

DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION IS MONDAY, JANUARY 9th 2006 at 5:00 p.m.

The Long Weekend and Lend Me a Tenor are available at Theatrebooks and
the Metro Central Library. Copies of both scripts will be available for
perusal at the audition, but must stay on the premises.

Equity and Non-Equity actors are welcome to apply. Equity members will
be seen first at all open audition calls. Equity members cast in this
production will be engaged under an Equity form of contract. CAEA
members: please bring your membership card to the audition.
