TRISH'S APPROACH
As a Voice teacher, I think of The Voice as the entire being - the
expression of self. The voice is rooted in the body and therefore free
expression is affected by all blocks: physical, mental and emotional. I
have developed my work to facilitate students in exploring the breath,
the sound and themselves in a non-invasive way, thereby allowing them to
embrace possibilities that would not have ordinarily occurred to them.

Shakespeare is my text of choice for this exploration because it offers
so much in one package- fantastic imagery, great passion, arguments of
reason, tricks and games with language and structure and clear acting
choices. The key, I believe, is to breathe - because, from personal
experience, I know that is the way to get the impulses, thoughts, images
and emotions to flow organically.

WORKSHOP OUTLINE
10 AM - 11:00 Basic Voice Work and Warm-up - breath work, basic physical
opening,
neutral sound, through to larger physical and vocal opening, work on
vocal blocks (jaw, neck and shoulders, tongue, soft palette) and
resonating areas.
11:00 - 1 PM Group Exercises and Exploration
1 PM - 2 PM Lunch
2 PM - 5:45 PM Individual Text (each student will present a memorized
Shakespearean sonnet and receive specific feedback on aspects
of voice they need to work on)
5:45 - 6 PM Relaxation

3. IVANA CHUBBUCK TECHNIQUE - MONTREAL
-----------------------------------------------------------
Award-winning actor BENSON SIMMONDS studied with IVANA CHUBBUCK and has
become one of three teachers in Canada authorized by Ivana to teach her
amazing technique. Benson is Vancouver based but also coaches actors in
Montreal and Toronto.

You may have seen Ivana Chubbuck in December on Entertainment Tonight.
Learn her techniques used by HALLE BERRY, SHARON STONE, JIM CARREY, BRAD
PITT, and many others.

The technique is all about scene analysis, knowing how to determine what
the character wants and how he/she goes about winning their objective.
It also involves using substitutions, people in your personal life who
you have unresolved issues with, and fighting in your scene to get
people from your real life to change. It is a grounded and direct
technique that develops and expands prior use of motivation.

One of the many reasons so many have found success using this technique
is because it is uncomplicated and will ensure you find the strongest
personal connection with your character.

The cost of the workshop is $275. The cost to Equity members is only
$220 (savings of 20%, or $55). Benson's two upcoming Montreal workshops
will be held during the week of Feb 27th, 2005. The workshop takes place
over two intensive days; if you are available for only one day, call
about auditing.

For information and to RESERVE A SPOT (the earlier the better!) please
contact Benson's Montreal assistant, Donna at donnaseidman at hotmail.com
or call (514) 771-0432. Information on the Chubbuck technique can be
found at http://www.ivanachubbuck.com. You can reach Benson directly at
applaudordie at hotmail.com.

project. In this workshop, 10 participants will learn how to search,
apply and write for grants. This workshop will be given by Montreal
actor, writer, producer and director, Sarah Carlsen.
Participants will be asked to complete 2 assignments."
