CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS - THEATRE CALGARY'S PETRO-CANADA PLAY ADVANCEMENT SERIES 2005
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
About the Series & Submission Guidelines:

Theatre Calgary's Petro-Canada Play Advancement Series is a new play development program that provides an opportunity for Western Canadian theatre companies to workshop a new Canadian play for production in their subsequent season. We encourage submissions from culturally diverse voices and artists who are committed to the exploration of new theatre practices. Submissions will be selected by a jury lead by Series Director and Dramaturg Eric Rose. Each theatre company selected will receive a ten day workshop at Theatre Calgary in May-June 2005.  The Series will be open to non-traditional casting and workshop methods. Local professional actors will be provided to explore the play with the director and playwright/creator(s) of the companies selected.  The ten day period of work will culminate in a public presentation of the plays. The form of the presentations will be decided by where the play and company are in their development process.

The Artistic Mission of the Play Advancement Series is:

- To advance new Canadian plays towards full production through a flexible and adaptive development process.
- To encourage and welcome culturally diverse voices.
- To foster connections between established and emerging theatre companies, playwrights, artists and the play development centres/programs who work with them.

Criteria Check List:

- Only Western Canadian based theatre companies can apply (Manitoba-West including all northern Territories).
- The theatre company must have professionally produced at least one play in the two years prior to the application which ran for at least two performances.  We define the term professional as the artists involved in the production being financially compensated for their work.
- The selected theatre companies must fully produce the play workshopped at Theatre Calgary  within their next season (between June 2005 and December 31, 2006).  Fringe Festivals will not be considered a venue for production.
