EQUIFLASH - Council Requires ITA Contract for Shakespeare by the Sea
------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------
The Executive Committee of Council has reiterated its determination that
Shakespeare by the Sea, the Halifax-based outdoor summer theatre, must
adhere to the Independent Theatre Agreement (ITA) before engaging Equity
members.

The ITA is the scale agreement used by professional theatres which are
not members of PACT and articulates minimum standards for:
* Fees
* Health and Safety requirements
* Stage Management
* Outdoor venues
* Repertory theatre
* Dispute Resolution

Shakespeare by the Sea last engaged members of Equity under the terms of
the ITA in 2000. Until such time as Shakespeare by the Sea once again
adheres to the ITA and engages Artists under ITA engagement contracts,
members of Equity are required to refrain from working for this engager.
Members are advised that Equity will not grant permission to work for
Shakespeare by the Sea without reference to an Equity contract.

Reminder: Equity members may not rehearse or perform, stage manage,
direct, or choreograph for any producer (Equity or non-Equity, with or
without pay) without an Equity contract or the written permission of the
Association. Any member who does so may be subject to disciplinary
proceedings under Equity's Constitution and By-Laws.

Any questions or concerns about the rights and responsibilities of
membership in the Association may be directed to Equity's national or
western offices.
