WORKSHOP DIGEST FOR THE WEEK OF AUGUST 25

3. SEARS & SWITZER - TORONTO
4. SANFORD MEISNER WORKSHOP - TORONTO

-------------------------------
1. EQUITY SHOWCASE THEATRE - TORONTO
-------------------------------
# 1827 Advanced Scene Study: Acting Craft with Rosemary Dunsmore
Tuesday & Thursday 10 am - 1 pm
September 19 - October 17 (9 classes)
Equity $360 / Non-Equity $450
Deadline for application: September 7
The power of a great performance on film or in theatre lies in the
actor's ability to reveal, under pressure, the intricacies of the human
heart. This requires the actor to be genuinely engaged, actively seeking
to alter or interfere with his fellow actors. This lively interaction is
the breath of life and the soul of acting. Misconceptions about the
camera's needs often constrain actors into producing some attempted
perfect result instead of entering the more precarious and playful realm
of unpredictable character intention pursuit. This realm is the craft of
acting. Confidence in the craft gives you creative freedom. Scenes
should not be about hitting marks, etc. You are not there in service of
the camera; it is there to capture your experience. Using scene study
and exercises we will look at uncovering the human event; choice of
actions, objectives and obstacles, creating specific revealing
behaviour.

# 1830 Movement Psychology with Beth Laing
Tuesday & Thursday 2 - 5 pm
September 19 - October 12 (8 classes)
Equity $240 / Non-Equity $300
Deadline for application: September 7
Movement Psychology is a logic based system incorporating the work of
Martha Graham and Rudolf Laban. Yat Malmgren, co-founder of The Drama
Centre London, England, developed the technique as a complete body of
work by which the actor can analyze character types through movement and
tempo ultimately leading to transformation. The work is divided into a
series of movement classes, focusing on developing a free, centered
physicality, which enables the actor to adapt to the demands of
different characters

# 1831 The Contemporary Monologue with Rod Ceballos
Tuesday & Thursday 2 - 5 pm
September 12 to 28 (6 classes)
Equity $270 / Non-Equity $340
Deadline for application: September 7
This class will focus on the exploration and presentation of
contemporary monologues. This exploration will move from the workshop
into the audition setting to enable the actor to establish a visceral
connection to the playwright's material, and work on how to keep the
"live" connection resonating and fresh from one audition to the next.
Language and punctuation will also be examined as a key to learning the
playwright's intentions and to unlocking the emotions of the actor and
the emotional life of the character. Other areas to be investigated:
finding the physical, emotional, and verbal freedom to make choices in
the presentation of the monologue; courage, boldness, directness; the
importance of total preparation; the audition itself and SIMPLICITY.

# 1838 Character Development with Catherine McNally
Sunday 12 - 5 pm
September 17 to October 22 (no class Nov 8) - 5 classes
Equity $280 / Non-Equity $350
Deadline for application: September 7
Want to be able to bring a unique and individual stamp to your
performance, to make people stand up and notice? In this intensive
course learn to develop a character that lifts off the page towards an
exciting, inspirational and human connection with your audience. Through

what muscles and joints are important for certain types of movement,
recognize potential ways an actor can get injured, learn ways to prevent
injury, experience a Pilates class specifically for actors to correct
your muscular imbalances, strengthen your core, improve your balance and

# 1840 The Craft of Stage Acting with Tedde Moore
Wednesday 7 - 10 pm
September 13 - October 18 (6 classes)
Equity $225 / Non-Equity $275
Deadline for application: September 7
Want to land those auditions or make a difference in your work? Want to
learn how to handle props and make them work for you? This class will
touch on the basics of stage acting that seem to have been lost in the
rush to learn camera acting. The craft of acting on stage is a fading
art. Come and learn how to make an entrance, what a hot prop is, why
research is important, what stage presence is and how to enhance all you
do onstage. We will cover period work as well as modern. We will examine
how to make what you do your own as well as how to share that with the
audience. And we'll have fun doing it! After all, they are "plays".
