AUDITION - TORONTO

Tapestry new opera works requires one female singer/actor to complete
the cast of Elijah's Kite, a new Canadian opera for children by James
Rolfe & Camyar Chai. The role to be cast is:  Miriam  

Rehearsals run from October 15 to October 22, 2006 
School local & overnight touring (Prologue to the Performing
Arts)from October 23 to November 19, 2006. 
Tapestry engages professionally trained singing actors. Equity & Non
Equity may apply. The engagement will be governed by the terms and
conditions of the TYA clause of the CTA.  

Production Synopsis: In a schoolyard full of kids, nine-year-old Elijah
feels alone. He's had a lot of trouble from Big Billy Brett, who takes
every opportunity to bully and tease him. The new girl, Miriam, isn't
afraid of Billy and stands up to him. But Miriam's fierceness soon turns
into meanness, and she becomes a bully too. In the end, they all learn
to turn something negative about Billy into something good, and discover
what it takes to make Elijah's kite fly. 

Miriam: the 'new girl', plays age 10 - vocal range: lyric soprano
including a high "c". This versatile role, as part of a culturally
diverse cast of five singing actors and three instrumentalists, requires
solo & ensemble musical ability with strong rhythmic skill &
precision as well as physical acting. 

Prepare a 20th century song, in English. An accompanist will be
provided.
