This practical day-long workshop will focus on the psychological aspects of performance preparation through the use of techniques such as visualization, emotional control and concentration. Participants will take part in exercises and detailed discussion of many different aspects of these techniques and tools.

4. MEISNER ACTING TECHNIQUE - TORONTO

with JOHN RIVEN

Sanford Meisner was co-founder of the Group Theatre which took Stanislavsky's original theories and principles and introduced "Method" acting to America.  Meisner's own philosophy is based on the creation of real and truthful behaviour under imaginary circumstances.  The work focuses on helping students get out of their heads and back into trusting their gut instincts.
John has been teaching the Meisner Technique in Toronto and New York for over 8 years. 

A new 6 week session will begin on Thursday nights February 23rd to  March 30th.  
Classes are held at Central Studios, 680 Yonge St. 2nd fl.  
The cost is $225 for union members and $295 for non-union.

Working in the tradition of Clown Master Philippe Gaulier, the workshops build from the study of Jeu and progresses into building Bouffon characters and numbers to be performed.

Bouffons are the freaks at the Carnival, King Lear's fool, Ali G.

Students will be introduced to the bouffon form.  Costumes and improvisational games will be used to help students find their own form of satire.

The full bodied mask of the Character is a lesson in disguise.  Students will play in costumes and improvise to develop a character worth writing about.

BASIC TECHNIQUE CLASS with Gilles Plouffe
This is a place where actors come to work on different basic realistic acting exercises. Think of this as gym work for actors. Mr. Plouffe will be teaching basic preparation technique, sense memory and song & dance exercises. We will be working on techniques to develop concentration and imagination, to actualize whatever reality you imagine and to allow energy to flow freely through your mind and body so that you can direct it into whatever you focus on in your imaginary world.
