CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS - TORONTO
------------------------------
Crave by Sarah Kane
Directed by Jennifer Tarver
April 28 to May 19, 2007
Produced by Nightwood Theatre
at the Young Centre for the Performing Arts

Our international fair this season comes from one of the most celebrated
female playwrights of the last century, Sarah Kane (1971-1999). Kane's
plays are now the most frequently staged in Europe; at one point in
2003, there were 17 simultaneous productions of her plays in Germany
alone. Nightwood is proud to bring the professional Canadian Premiere
of Crave to Toronto.

Crave presents four characters, or perhaps four aspects of human nature,
set in an unnamed city. Two men and two women, each only having a
letter for a name, are linked through various relationships. The
ferocity of craving someone, or something, is palpable. Kane paints
four portraits of the turbulence of the human heart as these four
individuals navigate through love, loss and desire.

"(Crave) is, in effect, a woman's post-mortem on a self as
self-destructive as, sadly, Kane turned out to be and there's nothing
else like it in the language." The Times

"Crave is a poetic, musical quartet for four voices, of great formal
beauty, with echoes of the Bible, Common Prayer and T.S. Eliot." The
Daily Telegraph
