Job Posting
ARTISTIC DIRECTOR, Pi Theatre

Pi Theatre seeks a dedicated, passionate and visionary individual for
the role of Artistic Director. This will be a full time permanent
position.

Pi Theatre's mandate is to produce French Canadian plays in translation
as well as cutting edge works from the contemporary world stage. Pi
Theatre has operated as a professional theatre company since its
inception in 1984. The company's philosophy focuses on improving the
health of producing at the independent level not by pursuing our own
ends in solitude, but by helping to raise the playing field for all of
Vancouver's theatre community. The company is a founding member of the
See Seven independent theatre marketing initiative and launched the
Prime @ Pi initiative for emerging artist development.

Working with the General Manager, a small Board and contract staff, the
Artistic Director must be committed to upholding and communicating the
mission and policies of Pi Theatre. The Artistic Director has specific
responsibility for the artistic and creative programmes of Pi Theatre
including season programming, grant writing, directing, casting,
dramaturgy, hiring of creative and production staff, arts committees,
and public relations and board accountability. The Artistic Director
works closely with the General Manager to develop accurate budgeting
forecasts and maintain productions on budget.

The first order of business for the incoming Artistic Director will be
to complete the Canada Council multiyear grant due: March 1, 2008.

The ideal candidate will have a passionate commitment to independent
theatre. The candidate will enjoy having a highly collaborative
partnership with the company's General Manager on all matters related to
company oversight, planning, programming, networking and community
relations. A post-secondary education in theatre, distinguished
directorial credits and specific experience as an artistic director of a
small company will be highly desirable.

We thank all who apply for the position; please note that only those
selected for an interview will be contacted. Please send your letter of
application and resume in confidence to:
