EQUITY SHOWCASE THEATRE
-------------------------

Canadian Actors' Equity Association was saddened to learn that the Board of Directors of Equity Showcase Theatre (EST) decided to shut down operations at its recent meeting.

Despite the similarity in name, it should be noted that Showcase is not owned, run by, or part of Canadian Actors' Equity Association. However, Canadian Actors' Equity Association has contributed significant financial support to EST in the past and had recently approved continued professional development subsidies up to the amount of $30,000 for Equity member tuition in 2008-2009.

"Canadian Actors' Equity Association acknowledges EST's long history of providing professional development services to the Toronto theatre community." stated Arden R. Ryshpan, Canadian Actors' Equity Association's Executive Director. "We sympathize with the myriad financial challenges faced by EST, and we thank Showcase for its forthrightness when dealing with Equity during what has certainly been a stressful period." she continued.

Canadian Actors' Equity Association is the voice of professional artists working in live performance in English Canada. It is a national artists' association representing more than 5,500 performers, directors, choreographers, fight directors and stage managers working in theatre, opera and dance from coast to coast.
