-----------------------------------------------------
ONTARIO AND SASKATCHEWAN 2010-2011 BUDGETS ANNOUNCED
-----------------------------------------------------
Ontario budget highlights:

Ontario's 2010-2011 budget made no mention of new arts and culture
investment or initiatives. At first glance, the budget line item for
"Tourism and culture" shows a modest increase from $684 to $715.1
million but no allocation details are presently available.

Most disappointingly, the provincial government's budget did not support
the creation of new job opportunities through the implementation of a
live-performance tax credit (see

----------
Saskatchewan budget highlights:

Overall spending in the Ministry of Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport
will decrease by $20.5 million dollars.

Funding for the Saskatchewan Arts Board remained steady at $6,338,000.

***Also of note, last week the Government of Saskatchewan announced the
first cultural policy in more than 25 years. "Pride of Saskatchewan: A
Policy Where Culture, Community and Commerce Meet" outlines the
principles and priorities that will guide the development of the arts,
culture and heritage sector in Saskatchewan. More information can be
