Ethno-cultural mandate or ethno-cultural casting statement:
Canada's National Arts Centre is the nation's premiere performing arts
centre distinguished nationally and internationally by its unique
bilingual, multidisciplinary programming in music, dance and theatre.
Located in Ottawa, the NAC has a mandate from Parliament to nurture,
encourage and promote artistic excellence in every discipline of the
performing arts and as such plays a vital role in the performance of
Canadian works, showcasing outstanding artists from Canada and around
the world. English Theatre at the National Arts Centre works closely
with theatres from across every region of Canada.

Additional information:
The NAC has now commenced a search for a new Artistic Director of its
English Theatre department. The successful candidate will be a
well-respected theatrical leader, who is artistically ambitious, and is
strongly committed to Canadian work. The Artistic Director works
collaboratively in partnership with the Managing Director of English
Theatre, and reports to the President and CEO. He/she is a gifted
Canadian theatre artist who is interested in a national conversation
about theatre from coast to coast to coast, and whose vision is
reflective of the NAC's national mandate. The Artistic Director will
bring an in depth knowledge of the current, English Canadian theatre
landscape and will have the following opportunities: to form an English
Theatre Resident Company annually; to invest in play development
activities; to work alongside a group of highly-skilled production and
administrative personnel; and to work toward the creation of a National
Young Company.
