2012-2015 CTA NEGOTIATIONS SUCCESSFULLY CONCLUDE
---------------------------
JOINT STATEMENT FROM EQUITY AND PACT REGARDING CTA NEGOTIATIONS

Equity and PACT, paralleling the spirit of the negotiations, jointly announce that bargaining for the 2012 - 2015 Canadian Theatre Agreement (CTA) has successfully concluded. The negotiated changes will soon be sent to each association's respective membership for ratification.

Both Equity and PACT believe that these negotiations have resulted in a CTA that reflects the current realities of producing and working in professional theatre in Canada, and will serve the needs of the members of both associations. The bargaining teams of both Equity and PACT unanimously endorse the newly negotiated amendments as fair and progressive.

The two associations entered into formal CTA negotiations in early February 2012. Discussions throughout the 21 days of negotiations addressed substantive issues in an informative, constructive and productive atmosphere, and led to a number of structural and material changes regarding media and promotion, membership, quota, the engagement of children, negotiation protocol, and the interpretation of the agreement. The negotiation teams of both Equity and PACT are confident these material changes will address significant issues important to both bargaining partners.

The financial increases in the new Agreement are: 1.5% in year 1; 1.5% in year 2; and 2% in year 3.

PACT regular members will vote on ratifying the terms of the 2012-2015 CTA on May 12, 2012. Equity members, in good standing and who worked under the 2009 - 2012 CTA, will vote on the proposed agreement in an electronic (telephone and Internet) ratification that will begin in May 2012.

Upon ratification by the respective memberships of Equity and PACT, existing financial terms negotiated for 2012 to 2015 will come into effect June 25, 2012. However, all of the remaining negotiated amendments to the 2012-2015 CTA will come into effect December 31, 2012. Deferring implementation of the negotiated amendments will provide the members and staff of both Equity and PACT sufficient time to modify the administration of the newly negotiated structural and material changes, and to produce new support documents and engagement contracts.

---------------------------
Further information regarding the negotiated changes will be available to the Equity membership in the last week of April 2012. Questions may be directed to Executive Director Arden R. Ryshpan either by email (execdir at caea.com) or by phone (1-800-387-1856 or 416-867-9165 in Toronto).
