----------------------------------
VANCOUVER PLAYHOUSE - COSTUME PARADE SUNDAY MARCH 18 - ALL WELCOME TO
PROTEST THEATRE CLOSURE
 ----------------------------------

WHEN: Sunday March 18
WHERE: 350 Powell Street, Vancouver B.C.
PLEASE confirm an arrival time (10:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., noon, 1:00 p.m.,
2:00 p.m. or 3:00 p.m.) by contacting Lucia Frangione on Facebook or by
email to: Luciaf at shaw.ca

At this time slot, you will be costumed with a team leader and
approximately 10 actors/citizens who are being costumed by Naomi out of
Spectra theatre's stock. Once everyone is in costume, walk along our
route and you can either hand out your own leaflets with anything you
want to say about the Playhouse, hold a sign, or write messages on the
sidewalk in chalk if it isn't raining. The final choice is the easiest
and longest lasting if weather permits.

The route is: 350 Powell Street turn right on Main, parade to Broadway,
at Cambie pop up to City Hall, parade down Cambie across the bridge
merge on Smythe, turn right on Hamilton, end at Playhouse. This is a
total of 6.5km.

Walk according to your time and endurance. If you don't want to do the
whole thing you must arrange for your own transportation back to 350
Powell after 3:00 p.m. to disrobe. That's it, that's all you have to do.
Walk. If people have brought a scene they want to read or stop to talk
to someone who asks what they're doing or stop to sing a song, by all
means. Stop, let the moment happen, then move on.

Bring an umbrella, bring your own hair, make up and walking shoes, bring
your own protest message: a piece of chalk, a song, a scene, a sign,
leaflets. Bring a bottle of water.

100 protestors will be costumed for the parade. Bring a bag labelled
with your name on it for your street clothes. Be responsible for the
storage of your street clothes and of course be responsible for your own
valuables. There will be no secure place at Spectral theatre.

Protestors may use their own costume if they have one, all the better.
We encourage period costumes, outlandish, fun, colourful, etc. Children
will be out on the street so please dress accordingly.

Arrange for your own transportation to 350 Powell Street and back.
protestors don't have to walk the entire walk, they can choose a block
or two and catch up with any leader they happen to see or walk on their
own. The ideal blocks to catch would be between city hall and the
Playhouse.

Make sure your message is positive and simple. The mission is to present
a united artistic voice supporting the Playhouse and that a world-class
city must save its regional theatre and that we believe in the future of
the Playhouse. (How the Playhouse is going to restructure, what funds
are needed, who the opposition is, what the politicians have
done...let's save that for other avenues of expression. Sunday is about
unity, beauty and a plea to act.)
