---------------------------
ANNOUNCING THE NEW DANCE•OPERA•THEATRE "DOT" POLICY
---------------------------
The DOT is a multidisciplinary Policy addressing the needs of
Dance•Opera•Theatre productions/activities with more expansive and flexible
terms and conditions. It combines elements from the former Guest Artist and
Canadian Dance policies with new provisions for small-scale opera
engagements. The DOT now outlines how Equity members may participate in
productions at post-secondary educational institutions.

Provisions common to engagements across all three types of work appear at
the beginning of the DOT, and there is a separate Schedule specific to each
genre at the end of the Policy. The Schedules address allowable hours and
provide minimum fees.

Expanded provisions include:
• straightforward, accessible language
• option for non-standard engagements, providing for hourly and/or per
performance or presentation fees
• addition of provisions for touring, including travel, accommodation and
per diem
• new and simplified payment options, including direct deposit and email
money transfer
• maintenance of a two tier fee structure, with a more equitable method of
calculating the applicable tier (minimum fees).
• expanded recording provisions, including additional uses of recorded
material
• ability for a non-member to be contracted under the DOT (subject to
negotiation with the Engager)

Please do not hesitate to contact an Equity Business Rep at busrep at caea.com
if you have any questions or comments about the new DOT Policy.
