MUSICAL WORKS: A FESTIVAL CELEBRATING NEW MUSICAL THEATRE
After five successful years of programming at Toronto's SummerWorks Festival, Musical Works in Concert is teaming up with Theatre 20 to present a weekend-long Festival of three new Canadian musicals.

SYNOPSIS: This two-man musical explores the stages of friendship of a young, straight photography student looking to broaden his horizons, and a homosexual dilettante with a mind for causing mischief. What begins as a chance meeting rife with ulterior motives becomes a much deeper and more meaningful encounter. While light and humorous, the show explores themes of prejudice, first impressions, the nature of relationships and their importance.

CASTING:
Joseph Wright (Male, 20's-30's)
Joseph is a student working towards his MA in photography. He comes from a traditional, middle-class background, is a little introverted and reserved, and is trying to escape from the business career that his parents (accountant and lawyer) are trying to manipulate him into. He is trying to broaden his own horizons and break away, but lacks the impetus to do so. He is in his early twenties and has clear speech that speaks of a good education, but which has a contemporary side to it. Familiarity with camera equipment would be helpful, but is not necessary. Vocally, he is a baritone with a strong higher register. He sings a top Ab, but the tessitura of the role is lower than that.

Ryan Stevenson (Male, 20's-30's)
Ryan is a homosexual man in his early twenties. He is living off the financial generosity of his (separated) parents, and has not yet developed an appreciation for the responsibilities of adulthood. He has spent much of his past playing the field and sleeping with various men, but has never had a true relationship. He comes from a middle-class background and speaks well, but this characteristic is not as pronounced as it is for Joseph, and he has a definite wild side and street-earned slant to his dialect. He keeps himself in good shape. Vocally, he must be a strong tenor, and be able comfortably to sing a top A in full voice.
