EQUITY HONOURS BARBARA FINGEROTE, TED FOLLOWS, JENNIFER PHIPPS, KATHRYN
SHAW AND GREG WANLESS

February 23, 2016

Equity's national Council held its biennial awards celebrating artistic
excellence, service to the Association and community leadership on
February 22, 2016. Dan MacDonald, first President of Canadian Equity
following our amicable split from Actors' Equity Association (U.S.) in
1976, was the host for the evening also recognizing Equity's 40th "ruby"
anniversary.

"It was a wonderful night with a great turnout from many 40-year Equity
members." said Council President Allan Teichman. "It is Equity's great
honour to celebrate these special individuals who embody artistic
excellence and the value of mentorship in Canadian theatre." continued
Teichman.

LIFE MEMBERSHIP is awarded to members who have made an outstanding
contribution to the performing arts. It recognizes not only career
achievement, but also colleagues who go "above and beyond" to benefit
Equity and its members.

Jennifer Phipps (Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON), has given a lifetime of work to
theatres across Canada. Every one of her nominators described Ms Phipps as
an actor of superlative talent and commitment who also generously and
unfailingly provides support to her colleagues.

Greg Wanless (Kingston, ON), founding Artistic Director of the Thousand
Islands Playhouse in Gananoque, ON, has contributed to the Canadian
theatre ecology for 30 years plus. His generosity of spirit is highly
regarded by seasoned colleagues, the community and many student performers
and actors just out of school, who began their career at the Playhouse.

Kathryn Shaw (Vancouver, BC), Artistic Director of the professional
theatre training school Studio 58, has dedicated her more than 30 year
career to teaching and mentoring emerging Canadian talent.

Ted Follows (Kitchener, ON), devoted the prime of his life to the emerging
theatre scene in Canada, performing and directing on many of Canada's
stages. Mr. Follows has mentored countless emerging artists, his children
among them, and is admired by his peers as a generous and insightful
onstage collaborator.

HONORARY MEMBERSHIP is awarded by Equity's Council to an individual who
has made an outstanding contribution to the Association, its members and
the performing arts community in Canada.

Barbara Fingerote (Toronto, ON), is a tireless arts supporter, dedicated
volunteer and audience member extraordinaire. Local performers consider Ms
Fingerote (aka "Front Row Barbara") an integral and invaluable part of
Toronto's cultural life.

Equity is the voice of professional artists working in live performance in
English Canada. It is a national artists' association representing almost
6,000 performers, directors, choreographers, fight directors and stage
managers working in theatre, opera and dance.
