Ethno-cultural mandate or ethno-cultural casting statement: We are looking
for strong, male and female performers of Indian South Asian and Caucasian
descent. Ages may range from late teens – to mid 50s. Specifically this show
is about two young London women from different backgrounds who share an
aptitude for football (soccer) and pressure from their families to conform.

Character information:
Jessminder "Jess" Bhamra (Indian, Vocal Range: mezzo-sop with chest to C5
and head to approx E5; ideally strong leading lady belt) - A tomboy in
England, she longs to play football with the local team, the Harriers. Age
18-25.

Jules (Caucasian, Vocal Range: mezzo-sop with strong chest voice to D5 and
head voice to at least E5) - Jules is a lead soccer player on the Harriers,
but is constantly being told by her mother to give up soccer. Age 18-25.

Joe (Caucasian, Vocal Range: leading tenor or high baritone (top note must
be comfortable G4)​  -​ Joe is the coach. Age 20-30.

Paula Paxton (Caucasian, Vocal Range: character voice contralto-mezzo
(written range G#3 to C5) - Jules’s Mom, Paula is a spunky ‘wanna-be-20 year
old’. Age 35-45.

Mrs. Bhamra (Indian, Vocal Range: contralto (written range G3 to Eflat5) -
Mother of Jess and her sister Pinky, Mrs. Bhamra is a very conservative Sikh
women. Age 50-55.

Mr. Bhamra (Indian, Vocal Range: light baritone (written range A2 to E4) -
With similar values to his wife, Mr. Bhamra is also traditional but wants
his daughter to be happy. Age 50-55.

Pinky (Indian, Vocal Range: brassy, belty stagey voice, comfortable chest to
D5 (written range G3 to Eflat5 with high sung wail/descant as effect) - A
sassy fashionista, Pinky is soon to be wed to Teetu. Age 20-30.

Tony (Indian, Vocal Range: high tenor (written range B2 to G4) - Tony is
Jess’s best friend. He has always supported Jess’s dreams. Tony has a secret
of his own, which is that he’s gay. Age 18-25.

Shahid (Indian, Vocal Range: male heritage singer also with advanced alaap
capabilities and well developed, controlled falsetto (NB highest written
note D5) - The uncle. Age 40-50.

Simi (Indian, Vocal Range: highest quality Indian heritage soprano singer
style with advanced control of characteristic ornamentation, alaap style
(range Aflat3 to G5) - The wedding planner for Pinky. Age 30-40.

Several ensemble roles for ages 18 - 60, all ethnicities welcome.
Particularly interested in young women 18 - 25 for the “Harriers Team” who
are very athletic and able to handle a soccer ball.

Equity members will be seen first at all open audition calls. Equity members
cast in this production will be engaged under an Equity form of contract.
