QUICK BRIGHT THINGS
by Christopher Cook WORLD PREMIERE

CONTEMPORARY: Nick travels home to Thunder Bay with his adopted son, Gerome,
to meet Gerome’s birth mother. The boy’s recent schizophrenia diagnosis has
everyone in turmoil, as the family embarks on an unforgettable weekend
to ’un-crazy’
Gerome and host his birth mother for dinner. A touching, often hilarious,
and unabashedly honest play that gives a deeply authentic picture of mental
illness, at the same time reveling in the ‘ordinary craziness’ and intimacy
of family.

DATES OF CONTRACT:
Rehearsals: September 22, 2017
Opening: October 20, 2017
Close: Nov 1 (possible holdover Nov 5), 2017

Roles:

Gerome, Age 17
(must be convincing as this age… about to turn 18, intelligent and into
sci-fi)
Nick, his papa, late 40’s
(they live with his husband in Montreal, recently quit his bar job and is
home-schooling his son)
Marion, his aunt, late 30’s
(successful Thunder Bay middle class, vividly friendly)
Reid, his uncle, early 50’s
(successful Thunder Bay middle class, physical presence and enjoys life)

(a professor despite a wild youth)
