Successful applicants
will also be asked to prepare a side from the play; sides are available at
www.odysseytheatre.ca.

Characters;
Note: The play takes place at the end of the 21st Century. Massive climate
changes are normal and accepted. Slavery has been reinstated to deal with
huge numbers of climate refugees.

Lysistrata is our heroine. At 40ish, she is super rich, smart and loyal to
her friends, has a great sense of humour, and passionately in love with her
husband Cleon. She is also desperate to have a child because, like so many
women of her time, she is barren. So desperate is she to be a mother that
she has bought an ancient Temple, an authentic invocation and is going to
try and call the Goddess Gaia to her aid. It will not go according to plan.

Cassandra is Lysistrata’s best friend. At 30ish, Cassie is the only one who
sees the deterioration of Mother Earth and wants to do something about it.
She is constantly ignored which makes her a little paranoid. She is in love
with her new partner Pietra but refuses to bring a child into this mad, mad
world.

Pandora is Lysistrata’s neice. At 20ish, Pandora has had a cloistered
upbringing to protect her innocense and purity, two virtues she wants to
ditch as quickly as possible. She’s lively, physical and interested in
being lively with Theo.

Cleon is Lysistrata’s husband. At 40ish, Cleon is, like his wife and
business partner, super rich and super smart and somewhat boyish. He is
bored being a master if industry. He wants to go into politics. He wants to
dispense with the dullness of democracy and become a tyrant. He thinks the
weather can be managed and has made a fortune managing it.

Pietra Caspār Bentonovitch is Cassandra’s new husband and Cleon’s military
attaché. At 30ish, Pietra is a woman who self-identifies as a man who loves
women and specifically Cassandra who is his/her first love. This creates a
conflict because Pietra is also fiercely loyal to Cleon.

Theodoros (Thēo) is Pandora’s suitor and Cleon’s executive assistant. At
20ish, Theo is smart, handsome and will do anything to get ahead. He
initially sees Pandora as a means to an end (becoming Cleon’s nephew) but
will discover that Pandora puts an end to his means.

G is a male slave who was formerly a cabaret performer. He could be 40. He
could be 60. He’s definitely angry about his plight and ready to sing about
it.

H is a female slave and partner to G. She has a similar background. (this
actress will also play the Goddess Gaia)
