color:#1F497D'>Spraying a 70 tree is difficult but not impossible with the
right equipment. We have done pyrethrin treatments for aphid control but
in the case of large trees we have done ace cap treatments. Ace caps work
very well but they are very invasive to the tree and I would never do more than
two treatments in a 5 year period. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

far as I understand the new legislation, arborists can still use many banned
pesticides if a qualified individual (accredited arborist or RPF) recommends the
treatment as needed to save the tree. This means we can still spray
acephate, carbaryl and even use Cygon for root drenches. Ace caps are
still useable as well. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif";
color:#1F497D'> Do
CANUFNET’ers have any thoughts on ace cap use? Is it better to use
a localized application or better to spray and deal with drift issues?
Maybe a wider registration of Treeazin would be better but that is still wounding
the trunk.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

difficult to interpret pesticide labeling and legislation and I have yet to

is just spraying the tree down with water once or twice per week, could use a
pressure washer, just on the undersides of the leaves. Customer could
also use yellow sticky traps in their yard or a yellow kiddie pool with a drop
or two of soap in it. Insecticidal soap would as a foliar spray if you
applied it 2 or 3 x per week for 2 weeks. But you might not get any
better control than using the water in bad aphid years.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

Um, I have a client with a 70' Little leaf Linden in Backyard, covered <br>
in soot from heavy aphid infestation throughout this year and dates <br>
back to late summer last year.<br>
<br>
Tree is dripping honeydew on nieghbouring property and all plants/ <br>
shrubs in garden now sooty. How do you spray a 70' tree repeatedly to <br>
remove aphids? Do oil sprays work in spring? Aphids are now gone, <br>
likely in bark I presume. Would imidacloprid be effective. Guelph has <br>
banned cosmetic pesticide use.<br>
Tree although healthy seeming is boxed in by other trees and heavily <br>
limbed. Plan to prune lower/ small limb to increase light through <br>
lower canopy.<br>
