<br><font size=2 face="sans-serif">In Brantford we use a program called
Avantis; it seems quite similar to the description of Hansen posted yesterday.
As it is not geared to managing trees, it's a general asset management
program. I believe it was initially used for industrial use. It
has required extensive customization to make it work for tree inventory
& work order management. We were the first department in Brantford
to use this program, and we have had good success with some aspects, while
other significant issues have been unresolved. A lot of work was
put in at the beginning to get our work order system up and running for
trees; it works quite well. However, we ran out of time to get our
grid pruning program computerized, so now our operations is still half
on paper and half on the computer. I think Avantis could be a good
program, it just requires a lot of customization and highly detailed planning
at the outset. </font>

<br><font size=2 face="sans-serif">It's been 7 years since Avantis was
rolled out and we've gotten used to paddling our half-built ship. </font>
