1. Develops and maintains a computerized data management system for pest
control activities and related programs.<br>
2. Conducts investigative studies using approved scientific methodologies,
demonstrating skill and judgement in the use of laboratory and/or field
equipment and instrumentation; evaluates and applies the appropriate
statistical analysis to the data collected.<br>
3. Collects, rears and identifies insect specimens according to standard
methodologies and ensures that unique or unusual specimens are preserved for
reference purposes.<br>
4. Investigates and responds to enquiries from clients regarding pest-related
concerns by meeting with clients and proposing mutually agreeable solutions and
providing information about Pest Management programs and services.<br>
5. Assists with the enforcement of the provincial Dutch Elm Disease
regulations.<br>
6. Represents Pest Management at warranty inspections for all City of Saskatoon
construction projects involving trees and shrubs assesses plant material for
pests, diseases and overall health.<br>
7. Prepares reports of field activities and special projects as appropriate.<br>
8. Provides training and guidance to employees performing activities related to
insect pest identification, biology and control and operating equipment.<br>
9. Prepares and presents informational, educational and public awareness
discussions for other departments, schools, public meetings etc.<br>
10. Assists with the development of operational procedures.<br>
11. Consults with other municipalities and other levels of government to stay
current with new initiatives. <br>
12. Supports and promotes a safe and positive workplace culture through a
variety of initiatives and activities.<br>
13. Supports and promotes the health and safety of employees in accordance with
the Occupational Health & Safety Act & Regulations in addition to the
City of Saskatoon’s Administrative Occupational Health & Safety
Policies and departmental procedures.<br>
14. Performs other related duties as assigned.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

* Degree in the biological sciences specializing in entomology. Graduate degree
preferred.<br>
* Two years’ practical entomological experience in the identification and
control of invertebrate/vertebrate pest species, including experience in
ecological field work data collection.<br>
* Possession of or the ability to obtain within three months after date of
hire, all applicable pesticide applicator permits. <br>
* Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver's Licence. <br>
* Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.<br>
* Possession of, or the ability to obtain within six months from the date of
hire, valid first aid and CPR certificates.<br>
* Considerable knowledge of insect anatomy, physiology and behaviour.<br>
* Knowledge of insect taxonomy with the ability to identify insects to the
level of genus and species.<br>
* Knowledge and understanding of plant physiology, ecology and tree diseases.<br>
* Knowledge of the principles, practices, materials and instrumentation in the
area of entomological laboratory and/or field work.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
