Much of what I can find indicates that trees are being selected based on their resistance to DED but it isn't clear if the tree is just not susceptible to DED or whether it is actively fighting the disease. If the latter, one would expect that the tree would be more prone to infection when it has been otherwise compromised (e.g., new sidewalk cut into its roots.)
