The most expensive tree is the one you replant every 10 - 20 years.</div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">It’s much better to plant fewer trees and actually plan to GROW the ones one does plant so that trees can actually live well into maturity. That’s a far superior canopy..</div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">Just a note - I may be misinterpreting your description of the planting but one should never plant directly into the structural substrate. A tree should always be planted into soil, hopefully one that is pH related to the tree that’s being planted and has an organic component. The paving - be it porous or cement or cobble - should then be installed over the structural substrate. We removed concrete panels, dug out large pits and installed 40 street trees on both boulevards of a section of road. Additionally, rather than installing standard metal tree grates, we installed cobblestones around the base to provide a hard surface area while maintaining a decorative theme. We prefer to use cobblestones in selective areas to allow for the expansion of the root flare.
