The earthworm population rises substantially after the application of the chips.</div><div>85 % of our sites we leave the chips.</div><div><br data-mce-bogus="1"></div><div>Bark mulch looks nice, but tends to repel water. </div><div>Chips certainly have a rougher, farmlike look to them.</div><div>It's a cultural thing. Glad to see that many municipalities here in the Lower Mainland</div><div>use the coarse wood chips on their roadway medians.</div><div><br data-mce-bogus="1"></div><div>I've never really used shavings, so I can't comment.</div><div>I know that you want to be careful with sawdust, as too much choke out water</div><div>and maybe oxygen from penetrating into the soil.
