Please vote for us!
If you think the work of the Ontario Clean Air Alliance is super exceptional – we're behind ON's coal phase-out after all, and now we're taking on the nuclear industry in Ontario – please vote for us as Best Enviro Group in NOW Mag here: http://nowtoronto.com/fbApps/bestof/nominees.cfm?category=159&subcategory=1515

And I've been nominated in the Best Activist category alongside other kick-ass enviros. What an honour! Though I'd rather it not be a competition, you can vote here: http://nowtoronto.com/fbApps/bestof/nominees.cfm?category=159&subcategory=1509

Thank you!

Our Last Best Hope
Nightly through till Aug. 18, 7 p.m.
Dufferin Grove Park (Dufferin, south of Bloor)
$10 donation or pwyc

Clay & Paper Theatre invites you to join us for our 17th summer season, a bold new play inspired in part by the Idle No More movement, written by David Anderson (C&P Founder and Artistic Director) and Angela Loft (C&P Alumnus). OUR LAST BEST HOPE is an adult show disguised as a children’s show for reticent grown-ups. In it, we tackle some large foes - from the oil industry, to our ability to passively watch our demise - using Clay & Paper Theatre’s trademarksatire and wit, large puppets, mask, song, and dance. OUR LAST BEST HOPE is an ode to the perseverance, protection, and positivism of the Human Race, and plotting a better path for our future. So please join us when we sing “It’s time to change direction, it’s time to change our tune, it’s not an insurrection, it’s the changing of the moon.”

Laugh Therapy Improv, summer drop-ins

Mondays Aug 5, 12, 19, 26 @ 6 pm – 8:30 pm
The Centre for Social Innovation - Annex, Fringe Creation Lab [4th floor], 720 Bathurst
$20

A class that focuses less on ‘games’ and more on professional & personal growth. The results are no less hilarious; you will mos def LYAO. The main idea behind these exercises is to re-learn how to ‘play’. We all knew how to do this quite naturally as children, but as adults most of us have learned to not ‘goof around’. Allowing ourselves to play is essential to good theatre and to our sanity as humans. This can be immeasurably helpful when it comes to thinking on your feet at work, speaking in front of others, and generally enjoying life more.

Justice for Sammy. Killer Cops off our Streets

Tues. Aug. 13, 1 – 5 p.m.
Toronto Police Headquarters, 40 College

The Toronto Police Services Board is meeting Tuesday August 13th at 1:30pm. Join us as we mourn the death of Sammy Yatim, Toronto's latest victim of police brutality, and fight for justice for all victims of police violence and murder. The "special Investigations Unit" has shown a clear inability to police the police, leaving cops in Toronto with a sense that they can get away with murder, and leaving us with no hope for accountability from the authorities. Our communities are stronger, and more resilient than racist, classist police, and together we can ensure justice and build a world without police violence

Brenda Sayers - FIPA Speaking Tour

Friday, August 16, 6:30 - 9 p.m.
Cecil Street Community Centre, 58 Cecil St (near Spadina and College)

Brenda Sayers from the Hupacasath First Nation in Vancouver Island is undertaking a cross Canada speaking tour to share information about the Hupacasath's challenge to the Canada-China Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (FIPA). FIPA would expose Canada to lawsuits from Chinese companies who claim their profits have been lowered by a government decision, including environmental legislation, resource conservation measures, or actions that fulfilled constitutional responsibilities with respect to First Nations. These lawsuits would be decided by paid arbitrators, not judges, in closed-door tribunals outside Canada’s legal system. As an example of what this means, a U.S. oil and gas firm, Lone Pine Resources, is using a similar measure in NAFTA to sue Canada for $250 million dollars because of a temporary moratorium on shale gas extraction in Quebec. Brenda Sayers will explain how the FIPA will affect you and future generations and share details of their court challenge.

Common Frontiers along with the Council of Canadians is hosting the Toronto leg of the tour
