☢ Please sign our petition to Premier Ford to Cut the Cuts! Ontario can avoid the need to cut spending on public health, education and social programs by reducing electricity costs by $1.9 billion/year just by cancelling the Darlington rebuild and doing a deal with Quebec for low-cost water power instead.

The World

☢ Nuclear power ‘seven decades of economic ruin’, says new report Almost all nuclear power stations built since the nuclear industry’s inception have generated large financial losses. And the promises of cheap ‘fourth generation’ nuclear power plants and mini-nuclear power plants (small modular reactors, SMRs) are no different than the promises in the 50's.

☢ The false promise of nuclear power in an age of climate change Nuclear power is expensive and poses grave dangers including nuclear waste for which no adequate solution has been found despite a half-century of scientific and engineering effort. Finally there is the gravest of dangers: plutonium and enriched uranium derived from nuclear reactors contributing to the building of nuclear weapons. Renewables are the solution.

☢ Vision Green The Green Party of Canada is clear in its opposition to nuclear power and calls for its phase out. See pg. 36 of their platform.

☢ Mysterious Russian Nuclear Missile Accident Sparks Fears of Cover-Up & “Chernobyl Redux” Democracy Now speaks with Kate Brown, a professor at MIT about the Aug. 8 nuclear accident in Russia that killed 7 and released radiation.

☢ Unreported Deaths, Child Cancer & Radioactive Meat: The Untold Story of Chernobyl Following the mysterious nuclear accident in Russia, Democracy Now looks back at the 1986 nuclear disaster in Chernobyl with Kate Brown, author of the new book “Manual for Survival: A Chernobyl Guide to the Future.”

☢ Nuclear Governance in Canada – a corporate takeover? Article by Gordon Edwards about Canada's massive investments in Small Modular Nuclear Reactors (SMRs), the role of SNC Lavalin, nuke waste dumps proposed in Ontario and Manitoba, and more.

☢ Radioactive Canada - Nuclear Hotseat Podcast with Dr. Gordon Edwards on Canada's RadWaste, SNC Lavalin, small modular reactors and more.

☢ Is the push for nuclear power a covert push for nuclear weapons? Ontario

☢ Wheels coming off on Darlington rebuild project It’s starting. The inevitable delays and cost overruns that have plagued every nuclear project in Ontario’s (and much of the world’s) history are now well underway with the Darlington re-build project.

☢ Two nuclear waste dumps threaten the Ottawa River A multinational consortium wants to build two nuclear waste dumps alongside the Ottawa River upstream of Ottawa-Gatineau - one at Chalk River and the other at Rolphton, ON. Both dumps disregard international safety guidelines and would leak radioactive materials into the Ottawa River, endangering drinking water for millions of Canadians living downstream.

☢ Protesters take to Ottawa River against Chalk River's nuclear waste disposal plan Cottagers, residents, and concerned citizens took their quarrel over Canadian Nuclear Laboratories’ (CNL) low-level nuclear waste disposal plan to the front door of Chalk River labs.

☢ Nuclear power plant partners with Saugeen Ojibway Nation on medical isotopes and fish monitoring Bruce Power needs Saugeen Ojibway Nation's support to bury ON's nuke waste on their territory. BP has been pumping 30 billion litres of water/day in and out of their 8 reactors for decades, and only now are they monitoring the impacts on fish? As for medical isotopes, the world is producing medical isotopes without requiring any use of uranium or nuclear fission - Ontario can too.Renewables and Conservation

☼ Solar panels could be cash crop for farmers Solar and agriculture can co-exist. Leasing some land for solar development can help farmers create steady income to keep farms in the family.

☼ Adding up the red in region's nixed green energy contracts When the Ford Gov't cancelled 758 renewable energy projects, thousands of jobs and hundreds of millions in investments were lost.

☼ Solar’s stunning win in Europe: Even with storage it beats spot prices Market prices of PV modules and systems have decreased so fast that it is difficult to keep up. “Policy makers need to be informed that PV is the cheapest form of electricity, especially if its inherent low economic, technical, and environmental risks are taken into account.”Take Action!

☢ Tell the Ford government where to put its stickers The provincial government is currently wasting tax dollars on blatantly misleading stickers about the federal carbon levy, and it is insisting all gas stations install these stickers on their gas pumps – or be fined $10,000 a day. Fortunately, at carbontaxworks.ca you can order FREE stickers, and download some catchy messages to share on social media about the need for real action on climate change.

☢ First “Small” Modular (Nuclear) Reactor (SMR) licence request goes to Canadian regulator The nuke boyz hope to resurrect they're dying industry with "small modular reactors". But they're not small, not cheap, not tested, and have no solution for their radioactive waste. Here's your chance to comment on the first application before the CNSC. The deadline for comments is Sept. 15th.

☢ Order your FREE leaflets here calling on the Ford Government to Cut the Cuts and invest in water power from Quebec rather than rebuilding 10 nuclear reactors. If you can spare a few hours to leaflet your neighbourhood mailboxes, let me know. (angela at cleanairalliance.org)

☢ Please sign our petitions to CutTheCuts and move to 100% RenewableOntario and share them with your friends.

☢ Stop OPG's Nuclear Waste Dump Before It's Too Late Learn more about OPG’s nuke waste dump proposal in Kincardine, ON, and write Minister McKenna, Premier Ford and PM Trudeau here.

☢ Order your free KI (anti-thyroid-cancer) pills here if you live within 50 km of an ON nuclear facility - that includes all of Toronto and beyond. Download your anti-thyroid cancer posters here to post in your office, school, or local cafe.Events

☢ Power to the People with Minigrids Webinar Wed. Sept. 11, 1:15 - 2:45 p.m. EST This 90-min. webinar will explore innovations in financing off grid (Minigrids) energy solutions in remote villages that spark economic development and lead to sustainable rural energy markets.

☢ Climate First Tour with David Suzuki, Stephen Lewis & Buffy Sainte-Marie Sat. Sept. 14, 7 p.m. Convocation Hall, U of Toronto. As we head into the 2019 federal election, these notable climate figures will speak about the issues facing youth as they inherit the challenges of a dramatically changing planet.
