Govern for a Green New Deal

Call on MPs from across the political spectrum to form a government that will tackle the climate crisis and growing inequality, respect Indigenous rights, and create millions of good jobs. This is an initiative of the 27 young people who were arrested yesterday occupying the House of Commons calling on newly elected MPs to come together, put partisan politics aside, and govern for a Green New Deal. You can show your support by signing their petition asking MPs to Govern for a Green New Deal.

'The climate doesn't need awards': Greta Thunberg declines environmental prize

Wow - Greta declined the award and the $50 grand that came along with it, chastising the Nordic countries for not doing enough to lower their emissions and enviro footprints. She's turned our false faith in our flawed economic system on its head. Bravo girl!

Prime Minister’s Tree Target Sets High Goal For Afforestation

A backgrounder to the Two Billion Tree program indicates it’s intended not just to plant trees but increase forest cover. It pledges that, “We will work with provinces, territories, indigenous communities, municipalities, businesses and others, on a cost-sharing model to maintain and grow the amount of tree cover across Canada.” It calls for the federal government to fund communities to develop strategies to protect and expand forests.

Volunteers Needed

Got an afternoon to spare? I'm coordinating some leaflet blitzes - popping leaflets in mailboxes door to door out in Pickering - between now and Nov. 18th. I'll pay your transport expenses. We're going out as a group. It's good exercise. We're calling for immediate dismantling of the Pickering nuclear station after shutdown in 2024 rather than let the station sit idle for 30 years before dismantling. If you can spare an afternoon to help get the word out and if you like to walk, let me know and I'll tell you more. Thanks.

The shelter system is already at a breaking point and as the winter approaches the need will only intensify. - Open 2000 shelter beds to replace the inadequate accommodations provided in respite sites and meet the growing need for safe shelter

- Publicly call on the Provincial and Federal governments for urgent assistance to begin the immediate construction of social rent-geared-to-income housing.
