We Reject War and Nuclear Weapons

We call on Russia and NATO to explicitly renounce any use of nuclear weapons in this conflict, and we call on all countries to support the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons to ensure that we never again face a similar moment of nuclear danger. Add your name.

Tell Lockheed Martin to Begin Conversion to Peaceful Industries - no bombs, no bombers

Last Monday, the Canadian government announced that Lockheed Martin's F-35 had been selected for the $19 billion (with a lifecycle cost of $77 billion) contract for 88 new fighter jets. The F35 is not a defensive weapons system, but one designed to carry out aggressive bombing missions alongside US and NATO allies. The choice of the F35 indicates a fundamental rejection of the Canadian government's stated commitment to act as a peacekeeping country promoting global stability, and instead lays out a clear intention to carry out wars of aggression. IPCC summary

The IPCC reports are written in really difficult, technical language that makes them almost impossible to understand. We filmed this discussion about the most recent report, with the help of Dr Charlie Gardner from XR Scientists, to draw out the meaning behind the technical language and explain what’s really going on. 34 min. video interview

Nuclear power: not fit for purpose?

Mon. April 4, 2 p.m. ET

Nuclear power is increasingly marketed as part of the solution to the climate crisis and there is considerable support for it from trade unions. In fact it’s dirty, dangerous, expensive, won’t help with our climate problems, and there are far more jobs in renewables. Hosted by CND's (Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament) Trade Union Advisory Group.

Experts react to the latest IPCC report: We need a global plan to transition from fossil fuel production

Monday, April 4, 10 a.m. ET

This year’s IPCC reports will be the last to be published early enough to inform actionable change before 2030. The urgency is clear with IPCC scientists having issued their “bleakest warning yet” on the climate crisis and their latest report warning of a number of institutional barriers that prevent climate solutions from happening at scale. As the UN Secretary-General has noted, “coal and other fossil fuels are choking humanity”. Yet, we are currently on track to have double the amount of fossil fuel production as compatible with a livable planet. There is a distinct need for a Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty to serve as an anchor for international cooperation to phase out coal, oil and gas. Join us and speakers from across government, finance and civil society to reflect on the report, on how fossil fuels are driving the crisis and why the Treaty is the bold idea that we need.
