The CSUMB is a housing benefit for people on social assistance (OW and ODSP). For thousands of people across the Province every month, it is literally the difference between being homeless on the streets or being able to get a place to live. The cut to this benefit will mean that many more people will be made homeless and a time in Toronto when so many shelter beds have been lost and the shelter system itself is in crisis. We must STOP THIS CUT!<br><br>Glen Murray is MPP for Toronto Centre which includes the 'Downtown East', one of the poorest neighborhoods in all of Canada with a high concentration of homelessness. Welfare and disability rates are already impossible to survive on as this government cuts away at more and more benefits and the rates of income keep falling. Today welfare rates are almost 60% below where they should be, meaning a measly $606/month for a single person. Murray is campaigning to take over running the Province from McGuinty. We challenge Murray that this is the despicable legacy he<br>is a part of and we demand he take action to stop the cut to Community Start-Up.<br><br>Ontario Coalition Against Poverty 416-925-6939 / <a href="mailto:ocap@tao.ca">ocap@tao.ca</a> / <a href="http://www.ocap.ca">www.ocap.ca</a><br></span></font></div><div><font class="Apple-style-span" face="'Times New Roman'"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: 13px;"><br></span></font></div><div><font class="Apple-style-span" face="'Times New Roman'"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: 13px;">---------------------------------------<br></span></font><div><font class="Apple-style-span" face="'Times New Roman'"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: 13px;">---------------------------------------<br></span></font></div><div><font class="Apple-style-span" face="'Times New Roman'"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: 13px;"><br></span></font></div><div><font class="Apple-style-span" face="'Times New Roman'"><font class="Apple-style-span" size="5" color="#6c0098"><b>Alternatives to Capitalism Workshop</b></font><br><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: 13px;">with Manuel Larrabure and Thomas Ponniah</span><br><br><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: 13px;">Thursday, December 13, 6:30pm</span><br><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: 13px;">CSI Annex, Second Floor, Meeting Room #1, 720 Bathurst Street (S. of Bloor)</span><br><br><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: 13px;">One of the central tasks of remaking socialism for the 21st century is insisting upon and exploring alternatives to capitalism. This has been the importance of the Venezuelan Revolution, and the politics emerging in the Bolivarian bloc of states. The recent re-election of Hugo Chavez has led to further radical proposals for socialization. But these require careful study and debate given the experience of Venezuela and the balance of class forces inside the country and the region. One of the central theorists of the new theory of the transition to socialism has been Michael Lebowitz, who draws extensively on the developments in Venezuela in his thinking on ‘real human development’. This meeting will for discussion of these issues in light of the new Venezuela programme.</span></font></div><div><font class="Apple-style-span" face="'Times New Roman'"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: 13px;"><br><a href="https://www.facebook.com/events/429623747105561/">https://www.facebook.com/events/429623747105561/</a> </span></font></div><div><font class="Apple-style-span" face="'Times New Roman'"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: 13px;"><br></span></font></div><div><font class="Apple-style-span" face="'Times New Roman'"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: 13px;">---------------------------------------<br></span></font><div><font class="Apple-style-span" face="'Times New Roman'"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: 13px;">---------------------------------------</span></font></div><div><font class="Apple-style-span" face="'Times New Roman'"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: 13px;"><br></span></font></div></div></div></div><div><font class="Apple-style-span" face="'Times New Roman'" size="5" color="#006d97"><b>The Peace Maker - A Play Reading with Music <br></b></font></div><div><font class="Apple-style-span" face="'Times New Roman'"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: 13px;"><br>Friday, Dec 14, 7:30 pm<br></span></font></div><div><font class="Apple-style-span" face="'Times New Roman'"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: 13px;">Beit Zatoun, 612 Markham (Bloor and Bathurst)<br></span></font></div><div><font class="Apple-style-span" face="'Times New Roman'"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: 13px;"><br>A rehearsal presentation of a portion of the play The Peace Maker written by Natasha Greenblatt and directed by Jennifer Brewin.
