It will substantially increase the resilience of the system, resolve our peaking and bases load issues and properly integrate distributed renewable energy generation. A smart grid is the solution we seek but are we on a path to get there? Although the government seems to indicate that it is the goal we are pursuing, there are many remaining barriers to overcome and institutional mandates to re-align.
