In this series, with humour, play and honesty, we will look at how the personal is political and the political is deeply personal as we look at internalized social messages and explore ways of reclaiming aspects of self, connecting with deep-seeded needs and the impact this may have. We will consider how society's normative messages can be alienating as it fails to offer recognition on the many possibilities that fall outside the status quo and explore new ways of communicating and negotiating. Join us as we explore beliefs, the impact of power relationships and the expression of underlying emotions. Instructor: Luisa de Amaral, Graduate, Faculty-in-training. Presenting themselves in the media as experts, they are paid by corporations, think tanks and other special interests to cast doubt and delay governmental action on everything from cigarettes to pharmaceuticals and, most recently, climate change. Kenner examines the birth of the doubt industry, how it has succeeded for decades, and why we need to fight back.
http://bit.ly/1AU66Aw

---------------------------------------
---------------------------------------

Toronto Day of Action Against Bill C-51
Don’t let Stephen Harper Torch Our Rights
Sat. This bill disproportionately targets indigenous communities, environmental activists, dissidents, and Muslims, many of whom are already subjected to questionable and overreaching powers by security officials. This bill will make it easier and ostensibly lawful for government to continue infringing upon the rights of peaceful people. C-51 is reckless, irresponsible and ineffective. We are calling on the government to withdraw the legislation. Join the pan-Canadian protest.
https://www.facebook.com/events/413139418861169

More resources and petition here: https://openmedia.org/stopc51?src=

---------------------------------------
---------------------------------------

Contested Spaces - Toronto social and environmental justice symposium
Saturday March 14, 10:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.
OISE, 5th floor, 252 Bloor Street West
A day of paper presentations from student and community researchers, workshops and panels on social and environmental justice issues and campaigns.
