Every year, Canadian food waste amounts to $31 billion dollars. Not only are important resources being squandered as a result of this waste, but also it is environmentally damaging to our planet. When wasted food is thrown into landfill and begins to decompose, methane gas is released into the atmosphere, contributing directly to global warming. Road to Zero Waste is a local non-profit organization that works to address these problems by running workshops about food waste in various neighbourhoods and community spaces. Our goal is to change the way Canadians think about food waste, and to reduce food waste in Canada more quickly and efficiently.

https://www.facebook.com/events/418332645636665/?event_time_id=418332652303331

_______________________

_______________________

Monthly Protest Against NATO and Day of Action Against Military Spending

Thursday, April 25, noon -1 pm

Outside the NATO Association of Canada, 60 Harbour St. (at Bay St.)

Every month this year, the Canadian Voice of Women for Peace (VOW) will be holding a peace vigil outside the NATO Association of Canada headquarters in downtown Toronto at the corner of Harbour St and Bay St. Come and join us in April! This action will be in solidarity with the International Peace Bureau's Global Day of Action Against Military Spending. This year is the 70th anniversary of NATO, this male-dominated nuclear-armed military alliance and Cold War relic that threatens our security. NATO has been involved in illegal interventions in the former Yugoslavia and Afghanistan and destabilizing operations in Libya, Ukraine, Latvia, and Poland, etc... NATO members are the world's largest weapons manufacturers and arms companies which include Lockheed Martin and General Dynamics, corporations which fund the NATO Association of Canada. NATO puts intense pressure on Canada every year to increase military spending, which diverts public funding away from urgent social and environmental needs. NATO relies on a dangerous nuclear arsenal and refuses to disarm. VOW is calling for the Canadian government to withdraw from NATO and work through the United Nations on disarmament and the Sustainable Development Goals to bring the world genuine human security. No to NATO; yes to peace, nonviolence and sustainability!
