Canada’s affordability standard is paying no more than 30% of pre-tax income on housing. In Ottawa in 2011, a single person working at minimum wage would pay 44% of their income for a bachelor apartment; a person receiving Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) benefits would pay 69%.
