Broadening the Base (BtB) – as it is referred to – is today a community-centered, collaborative and inclusive Ottawa initiative focused on catalyzing and leveraging land, property, philanthropic and development resources to support the building of 1,500 new affordable housing units over the next five years to provide sustainable, long term and affordable accommodation for key vulnerable populations including: chronically homeless individuals, low income families with multiple young children, youth at-risk, Aboriginal people, and vulnerable seniors.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Cambria","serif"'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Cambria","serif"'>On behalf of the convening team, I am pleased to provide an update, to present you with a plan for the 2015 Design Phase, and to invite your participation. <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Cambria","serif"'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Cambria","serif"'>We wish to thank the many, many people that have contributed to the BtB process so far -- attending innovation sessions and a design lab held in Fall 2014, participating in organizational presentations and discussions, and offering inspiration and ideas.
