films in collaboration with homeless youth, based on the issues most
important to them. Then help guide the project in a discussion on what

<p><strong>Access to Justice and Ottawa’s Ticket Defense Program </strong><em>(Suzanne Bouclin, </em><em>Associate Professor, Faculty of Law, University of Ottawa)</em></p>
<ul><li>Hear about access to justice issues for street-involved individuals,
and how one Ottawa program – the Ticket Defense Program – is working to
make a difference.<strong><br>

<p><strong>Planning for Affordable Housing </strong><em>(Melissa Estable, Development Officer, CCOC; Dennis Carr,</em><em> Principal, DCarr Community Solutions; Abra Adamo, Postdoctoral Fellow, Carleton University)</em></p>
<ul><li>Declining senior government investment in housing across Canada is
placing severe pressure on housing affordability. In this context,
municipalities in Canada are increasingly looking to their land-use
planning systems to generate affordable housing opportunities. Join
Melissa, Dennis and Abra who will discuss how Canadian cities are
utilizing existing and new planning policies and tools to advance the
development of new affordable non-profit and private sector rental
housing within their jurisdictions.</li></ul>
<p><strong>Finding homes for refugees arriving in Ottawa</strong> <em>(Louisa Taylor, Director, Refugee613)</em></p>
<ul><li>Refugee613 was founded this Fall (2015) to help coordinate our
community’s response to an expected jump in the inflow of refugees to
Ottawa. How can our community — ordinary citizens, settlement agencies,
housing providers, reception centres and local organizations and
institutions — work together to ensure that each finds a home here? Join
Louisa Taylor, Director of Refugee613, for an action-oriented
discussion on this local and global effort.</li></ul>

<ul><li>Hear about how the Ottawa Hospital is successfully employing a
peer-led Community-Based Participatory Research project embedded in the
social-network-based approach to engage the inner city population of
Ottawa in tobacco dependence management with a holistic approach.</li></ul>

support they need is key to securing and retaining housing for many of

discussion about how the day programs in Ottawa play an essential role
in providing various levels of support and ensuring that this plan is

<p><strong>A Way Home Ottawa: Building a community of support to prevent and end youth homelessness in Ottawa </strong><em>(Kaite Burkholder Harris, Project Coordinator; and Edgar Mbaraga, Youth Facilitator)</em></p>
<ul><li>With support from the United Way Ottawa, local stakeholders and
young people are coming together to develop a framework to prevent,
reduce and end youth homelessness in Ottawa – with a focus on
transitional-aged youth (16-25). Grounded within a housing first
approach, the plan requires a coordinated, community-wide approach that
is responsive to young people. Hear the latest on how the plan is coming
together.</li></ul>
<p><strong>Inspirations for catalyzing affordable housing development:
Learning from other communities to broaden the base of support for
affordable housing in Ottawa </strong> <em>(Steve Pomeroy, Focus Consulting, and Gina Grosenick, Broadening the Base) </em></p>
<ul><li>Broadening the Base is an Ottawa initiative focused on identifying
and creating innovations in five areas to enhance availability of
affordable housing over the coming five years. Hear about affordable
