<a href="https://www.statcan.gc.ca/en/start">Statistics Canada</a>, released an article titled ‘<a href="https://www150.statcan.gc.ca/n1/en/pub/85-002-x/2022001/article/00011-eng.pdf?st=UHzq4nPL">Violence against seniors and their perceptions of safety in Canada</a>’
on July 7<sup>th</sup>, 2022. The article relies on multiple data sources, including the General Social Survey (GSS) on Canadians’ Safety (Victimization), police-reported data from the Uniform Crime Reporting Survey and the Homicide Survey, to examine the
nature and prevalence of violent victimization of seniors..<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The report noted that the risk of experiencing various forms of abuse is heightened among certain segments of the senior population. Specifically, those who are socially isolated, cognitively impaired, physically frail, living in institutionalized
settings or dependent upon others for care are at an increased risk of experiencing abuse. Given the increased risk of violence facing seniors who are precariously housed or are experiencing homelessness, serious considerations will have to be given towards
ensuring the proper supports are in place. <o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">Health Canada is conducting a sentinel site-based survey of youth aged 14-24 years who are street-involved and who use alcohol, tobacco, cannabis and other drugs, and is seeking partners to help connect them with youth. </span> <span style="font-size:11.0pt;line-height:105%;font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif"><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US">The objectives of this project are to better address the needs of young people with lived and living experience, as well as understand the current and emerging drug situations that this at-risk population is faced with
across the country. It will also enhance Health Canada’s understanding of barriers, such as stigma, linked to substance use and to seeking and accessing treatment. Advanis, a professional Canadian research firm, is working with the department to conduct this
survey. </span> <o:p></o:p></p>

Canadian Observatory on Homelessness</a>, provides an overview of a multi-year, community-based research study examining homelessness among Indigenous Peoples, conducted in Winnipeg, MB and funded by the

In this podcast, the At Home/Chez Soi study is discussed along with how researchers engaged and worked alongside the urban Indigenous population experiencing homelessness in Winnipeg. Also discussed are the project origins and the context for the work. This
includes how an Indigenous perspective informed understanding of the root causes of homelessness and how those understandings shaped and continue to shape ongoing work. Insights into preventing homelessness among Indigenous Peoples are also highlighted.<o:p></o:p></p>

<a href="https://covenanthousetoronto.ca/">Covenant House Toronto</a> released a study titled
<a href="https://www.homelesshub.ca/resource/impact-covid-19-youth-experiencing-homelessness-shifting-collaborative-prevention-focused">
The Impact of COVID-19 on Youth Experiencing Homelessness: Shifting to a Collaborative, Prevention-Focused Response in a Large Urban Area</a>. The research sought to understand how living in Toronto’s emergency shelter system during the pandemic has impacted
youth experiencing homelessness and how the sector and municipality could reimagine its response to youth homelessness and begin to shift its response toward longer-term solutions.
<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The study highlighted how government-imposed restrictions aimed at stopping the spread of COVID-19 led to structural changes in the lives of youth, particularly in accessing employment and housing during the pandemic. Research also showed
that many staff working in the homeless-serving sector experienced symptoms of burnout and exhaustion during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study also noted the increased level of collaboration across the city among different sectors and organizations, particularly
the creation of policies and procedures to support youth moved into emergency hotels in response to the pandemic.

qui reposait sur de multiples sources de données, notamment l’<i>Enquête sociale générale (ESG) sur la sécurité des Canadiens (victimisation)</i>, les données versées par les corps policiers au Programme de déclaration uniforme de la criminalité et à l’Enquête
sur les homicides, pour examiner la nature et la prévalence de la violence infligée aux personnes âgées.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="FR-CA">Il est observé dans le rapport que le risque de vivre diverses formes de maltraitance est plus élevé dans certains segments de la population âgée. Plus précisément, les personnes âgées socialement isolées, ayant une déficience
cognitive, physiquement frêles, vivant en établissement ou dépendant d’autres pour leurs soins sont plus à risque de subir des mauvais traitements. Compte tenu du risque accru de violence auquel sont confrontées les personnes âgées dont le logement est précaire
ou qui sont en situation d’itinérance, il faudra envisager sérieusement de mettre en place des soutiens appropriés.

canadienne pour mettre fin à l’itinérance</span></a><span lang="FR-CA"> (ACMFI), aura lieu à Toronto du 2 au 4 novembre 2022. Cette année, la conférence se déroulera selon une formule hybride, ce qui permettra aux participants d’y assister virtuellement ou
en personne. Son programme est conçu de manière à soutenir et à accélérer la fin de l’itinérance au Canada en donnant aux dirigeants communautaires, aux organismes, au personnel de première ligne, aux chercheurs et aux décideurs politiques l’inspiration, les
renseignements, les outils et la formation nécessaires à l’atteinte de cet objectif.

et d’autres drogues. Le ministère cherche des partenaires pour les aider à rejoindre les jeunes.<o:p></o:p></span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="page-break-after:avoid"><span style="mso-bookmark:surleterrain"><span lang="FR-CA">Les objectifs du projet sont de mieux répondre aux besoins des jeunes avec une expérience vécue ou actuelle, et de comprendre la réalité actuelle
et émergente en matière de drogue pour cette population à risque à travers le Canada. Le projet renforcera également les connaissances de Santé Canada en ce qui a trait aux obstacles, dont le stigmate, qui sont associés avec l’utilisation de substances, ainsi
que la recherche pour le traitement et l’accès à ce dernier. Advanis, une entreprise professionnelle canadienne, collabore avec le ministère pour effectuer le sondage.<o:p></o:p></span></span></p>

(en anglais seulement). Cette recherche avait pour objet de comprendre les répercussions, sur les jeunes en situation d’itinérance, de la vie dans le réseau torontois des refuges d’urgence pendant la pandémie et la façon dont le secteur et la municipalité
pourraient repenser leur intervention face à l’itinérance des jeunes et entreprendre de la modifier au profit de solutions de plus long terme.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="FR-CA">L’étude a fait ressortir la façon dont les restrictions imposées par les gouvernements dans le dessein de freiner la propagation de la COVID-19 ont mené à des modifications structurelles de la vie des jeunes, particulièrement
au chapitre de l’accès à l’emploi et au logement pendant la pandémie. Elle a aussi montré que plusieurs des membres du personnel du secteur des services aux personnes en situation d’itinérance avaient montré des symptômes d’épuisement professionnel et de surmenage
pendant la pandémie. L’étude a également fait état du niveau accru de collaboration entre les divers secteurs et organisations municipaux, comme la création de politiques et de procédures pour appuyer les jeunes installés dans des refuges d’urgence en conséquence
de la pandémie.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
