Enjoy National Parks for Free on Canada day!

CPAWS Nova Scotia and Sierra Club Atlantic Chapter would like to remind all park lovers that access to all national parks, national historic sites and national marine conservation areas is free for Canada Day, this Saturday July 1st.

The national parks in Atlantic Canada include Kejimkujik and Cape Breton Highlands in Nova Scotia, Kouchibouguac and Fundy in New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island National Park in PEI, and Terra Nova and Gros Morne in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The list of national historic sites can be found at: http://www.pc.gc.ca/progs/lhn-nhs/index_e.asp

There are no national marine conservation areas (NMCA) established in Atlantic Canada yet but there are two areas where CPAWS Nova Scotia, Sierra Club and other groups are working towards establishing NMCAs. Digby Neck and Islands and the Twin Bays area (St. Margaret's and Mahone Bay) show potential as sites for NMCAs. If you would like to know more about the possible designation of these areas as NMCAs please contact Laura Hussey, CPAWS Nova Scotia Marine Coordinator at lhussey at cpawsns.org.

CPAWS Nova Scotia works to protect large landscapes and to ensure that environmental aspects are taken into consideration when managing existing parks. For more information please see: www.cpawsns.org

Sierra Club Atlantic Canada Chapter aims to enjoy and protect the wild spaces of the Atlantic region while teaching others to use our ecosystems responsibly. For more information please see: http://www.sierraclub.ca/atlantic
