Communications Coordinator


Clean Nova Scotia is a non-profit environmental organization that is
seeking a dynamic, skilled Communications Coordinator. The
Communications Coordinator is responsible for internal communications
with staff, Board and committees, as well as external communications
with members, the general public and targeted audiences. Newsletter and
website design are also key responsibilities. Clean Nova Scotia's
workplace is dynamic, fast-paced, exciting, fun, and supportive.


Responsibilities:


Core Responsibilities (internal)

- Develop and implement strategic communications plan

- Advise CNS Board and Executive Director on communications matters

- Manage Board communications including planning and preparing for
meetings and AGM, minute taking, and coordinating and delivering agenda,
minutes and support information prior to meetings

- Research, writing, article assignments, editing, promotion and
distribution of Clean and Green newsletter

- Webmaster: deal with web providers, assist and coordinate staff in
updating website, maintain and edit common areas of website

- Serve on staff/board Working Groups and Committees

- Maintain and develop CNS display presence

- Coordinate other communications staff


Core Responsibilities (external)

- Responsible for communication with all internal and external audiences

- Regular anticipation and identification of challenges and
opportunities in public realm

- Manage media relations

- Raise public profile of organization


Program-Related:

- Advise and prepare staff when they engage media

- Plan and carry out public relations and marketing activities related
to individual CNS projects

- Provide Communication and Promotion support to programs (i.e.,
development of displays, brochures)


Qualifications:

- Excellent communication skills

- Experience developing strategic communication plans

- Strong computer skills and experience with design software

- Website design experience

- Media relations experience

- Supervision experience

- Ability to multi-task and prioritize

- Excellent organizational skills

- Strong time management skills

- Environmental knowledge/experience is a definite asset

- Experience working in a team environment an asset

Managing Director


Clean Nova Scotia is looking for a Managing Director to oversee human
resource management and program development. Clean Nova Scotia has grown
substantially over the past two years and has a staff of 25-30 people
with more during the summer. The Managing Director will have experience
with human resource management and writing proposals; a solid
understanding of various environmental issues is considered an asset.
The successful candidate will work well in a team environment but be
able to self-direct and take initiative. S/he will also be able to work
well in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Specific responsibilities
include:


Human Resource Management:

- Create an environment where staff are able to do their best, improve
performance and reach their potential

- Review monthly reports from staff and ensure that program deliverables
are being met

- Provide feedback to staff on reports, program delivery, performance,
etc

- Review time sheets and approve vacation, overtime, altered work
schedules, etc.

- Conduct performance reviews for staff and assist Program Coordinators
with their performance reviews of others

- Conduct interviews and hire new staff

- Handle performance problems and lay-off staff if necessary

- Mediate staff conflict

- Write program reports for the Board

- Determine salary structures and pay increases

Program Development:

- Develop new programs and determine activities, partners, and funders

- Write proposals (including work plans and budgets), and review all
proposals before they are submitted

- Up-date Board on proposals and funding

- Research potential funders

- Assist with Clean Nova Scotia's working groups to develop new program
ideas


Qualifications include:

- Human resource management experience

- Supervision and coordination experience

- Experience hiring staff (developing questions, interviewing,
conducting references, etc)

- Leadership and mediation abilities

- Proposal writing experience (including developing work plans and
budgets)

- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)

- Excellent organizational skills

- Ability to multi-task and prioritize

- Ability to handle tight deadlines, stressful situations, and conflict

- Environmental knowledge/experience especially those issues related to
CNS's strategic areas of climate change, energy efficiency, water,
waste, air and health is considered an asset

- Experience working in a team environment


Salary range for this position is $40,000 - 45,000. Resumes will be
