Position: Manager

Organization: Harrison Lewis Coastal Discovery Centre Society http://HarrisonLewisCentre.org

Location: Sandy Bay, East Port L'Hebert, Nova Scotia



The Harrison Lewis Coastal Discovery Centre is situated in Sandy Bay, Queen's County, Nova Scotia. The centre is equipped with a main building that has a kitchen, workspace, field laboratory, and several bunkhouses. The Harrison Lewis Centre has several hundred acres of beautiful fields, bogs, barrens, woodland, and seashore to support the delivery of educational programs and other special events in our areas of focus: ecology and skills for rural living.



The manager will work with the Harrison Lewis Centre Society to:



• Design and administer relevant programs.

• Prepare and implement annual and long-term budgets.

• Communicate with past, present, and future participants through the newsletter, HLC website, and various social media.

• Actively promote and market the Harrison Lewis Centre.

• Develop a database of potential funding sources and actively pursue funding to support the managing coordinator position and to enrich and enhance HLC programming.

• Maintain, or oversee maintenance of, Harrison Lewis Centre facilities (from housekeeping and landscaping to general repairs).



The ideal candidate is an energetic and imaginative individual with an understanding of ecology and the environment, and an appreciation of rural living and life-skills. The candidate will have a post-secondary degree in agriculture, forestry, biology, or a related field and/or life-experience in rural areas. Candidates without formal training but with profound knowledge of the outdoors and relevant work experience will be given consideration.



The successful candidate will be required to live on-site or in near proximity to the Centre for at least 5 months per year. For more information, please contact the Harrison Lewis Centre Executive Director, Dirk van Loon at HLC at eastlink.ca .
