*Hi Honey Bee Enthusiasts!*

Spring is upon us! I've seen lots of flowers around the city already
(crocuses, snow drops, heather and even some daffodils!) and have noticed
that maples are beginning to flower as well. Good early food for the bees.
If you haven't already done so, now is the time to renew your society
membership! We're planning a number of workshops again this season, and
we're hoping also to organize more social events so that we beekeepers can
get to know each other better. Here are the workshops that we have in the
works (dates TBA):

   - Intro to Beekeeping
   - Spring hive inspection and maintenance
   - Splitting Strong Hives and Swarm Control
   - Native bees
   - Honey Extraction
   - Top Bar Hives
   - Organic Methods for Disease and Pest Control
   - Preparing for Winter
   - Fascinating Fun Field Trips
   - And possibly others, including beeswax candle making!

Plus, we're looking into bringing Ross Conrad - bee expert extraordinaire -
into the city (he'll be coming from Vermont to run a beekeeping course at
Windhorse Farm<http://www.windhorsefarm.org/pages/programs-events/natural-beekeeping.php>)
to speak to Haligonian beekeepers. This will be a great opportunity, so
stay tuned!

If you'd like to get involved, perhaps organizing a social event or movie
showing, please get in touch.

Also, our regular top bar hive workshop host is not able to host this year.
Are you keeping bees in a top bar hive? Would you like to introduce our
members to this interesting way of keeping bees? If so, let me know!

All the info about becoming a member or renewing your membership can be
found at our website: http://halifaxhoneybees.wordpress.com/membership/.
Note that, beginning this year, you can pay online using paypal, if you
prefer that option to cash or cheque.

Looking forward to seeing you this season!

Best,
Nicole and all of the organizing team
