Our focus is on coordinating research and projects that will help to decarbonize our region’s economy, mitigating climate change impacts and moving Atlantic Canada toward net-zero emissions by 2050. Our clients include government and industry representatives who need complete and reliable information to guide thinking and action.

We are changing the way energy research is delivered. We’re in the business of facilitating collaborative, made-to-order research projects that resolve key energy-related questions. We are growing fast and are looking to add to our team. Currently we are seeking a permanent fulltime Research Manager.

Our Opportunity:

As Research Manager in this role, you will be responsible for the successful implementation of a multi-year project that will explore the barriers and opportunities to achieving pro-climate behaviours in Atlantic Canada. This unique project was the only one selected and funded in Atlantic Canada through Environment and Climate Change Canada. This project seeks to describe the barriers and opportunities for realizing low or zero emissions behaviours in the transportation, buildings, and agriculture sectors. It aims to seek public feedback on how best to motivate behavioural changes that will assist society to achieve net-zero emissions goals more quickly and cost effectively. The successful candidate would be working with researchers in all four Atlantic provinces.

In this position, you will be responsible for:
• Developing and implementing research methodologies, questionnaires and surveys on pro-climate behaviours alongside academic and industry partners.
• Ensuring superior communication and collaboration amongst project partners, collaborators, participants, funders and stakeholders.
• Defining scopes of work; tracking schedules, budgets, payments and deliverables.
• Performing critical path analysis and develop action plans to mitigate risks.
• Reporting on progress and financials to project participants, funders and stakeholders.
• Preparing detailed budgets for research projects and programs.
• Plan and implement workshops and information sessions.
• Working with colleagues at Net Zero Atlantic who are implementing similar projects.

At Net Zero Atlantic, you may also be asked to:
• Write and review expressions of interest, proposals, funding and grant applications.
• Create scopes of work and requests for proposals.
• Support other activities that further Net Zero Atlantic’s mandate.

Your qualifications include:
• A Master’s degree in environmental studies, behavioral economics, resource and environmental management, social sciences or equivalent.
• 2+ years project management or similar experience in research, community outreach or renewable energy related projects.
• Excellent communication skills and a desire to collaborate. Outgoing, at ease with people.
• Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Familiarity with maintaining financial controls, contract management, risk management and project reporting.
• Independent worker, well organized, self starter.

Assets (but not required):
• Experience in collaborating with First Nations or equity deserving groups.
• Familiarity with Atlantic Canadian energy and climate change policy goals, objectives and programs.
• Project management qualification (PMP).
• Experience with project management software tools and project tracking spreadsheets.
