<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman"><FONT color=#0033ff><B style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal"><SPAN lang=EN-CA>Bluenose Coastal Action Foundation, </SPAN></B><SPAN lang=EN-CA>a non-profit environmental group based in Mahone Bay, NS, will be hosting a <I style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal">Species at Risk Conference</I> this fall. The conference will likely attract a number of groups and individuals currently working with endangered and threatened species including: educational and research institutions, conservation organizations, and representatives from various government departments. </SPAN></FONT></FONT></FONT></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><SPAN lang=EN-CA><?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p><FONT face="Times New Roman" color=#0033ff size=3> </FONT></o:p></SPAN></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><SPAN lang=EN-CA><FONT face="Times New Roman" color=#0033ff size=3>Within Lunenburg County, there are a number of Species at Risk including the Roseate Tern, Piping Plover, and Atlantic Whitefish to name a few. For the past 4 years, BCAF has worked diligently towards establishing a secure nesting site for Roseate Terns who face significant pressures from habitat loss due to development and depredation by gulls.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Another ongoing project at BCAF has involved public education regarding the Atlantic Whitefish in the Petite Riviere watershed, the only place it is found in the world! The need to secure the future of Species at Risk has never been more important. Their recovery depends on our ability to share expertise, examine successes and challenges, and discover new ways to collaborate.</FONT></SPAN></P>

<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><FONT size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman"><FONT color=#0033ff><I style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal"><SPAN lang=EN-CA>Species at Risk 2006</SPAN></I><SPAN lang=EN-CA> is being organized as an opportunity for learning, knowledge sharing between policy makers, scientists, community groups, environmental managers, academia, and other individuals interested in the recovery of Species at Risk.
