scientists from 69 countries have signed a statement calling on governments and
the United Nations to adopt a moratorium on high seas bottom trawling - why
shouldn't you?<BR><BR>A short-term moratorium on bottom trawling on the high
seas could provide protection to the extraordinarily rich, vulnerable and mostly
undiscovered biodiversity of the deep seas until legally-binding
conservation and management regimes can be developed, implemented and
enforced.<BR><BR>Moreover, the socioeconomic impacts from such a moratorium
would be low, as the global high seas dragging fleet is quite small (Canada, for
example, does not even have a high seas dragging fleet).<BR><BR>For lots more
