Overview<br />

Bantry Bay Farm is a certified organic 2.5 acre, 110 share CSA farm looking for a full-time paid employee for the 2015 farming season (Apr-Nov). Also, if you are interested in apprenticing on our farm, please contact us as we have a robust apprenticeship program, and take 2 apprentices per year.<br />

About Us<br />

Bantry Bay Farm is a picturesque farm owned by three friends just outside the historic town of St. Andrews-by-the-Sea, NB. Venturing into our tenth year of farming we are growing two and a half acres of mixed vegetables for a 110 share CSA, the St. Andrews Farmer's market, and several local restaurants including The Rossmount Inn and Savour (Family owned businesses aimed at celebrating what can be done with the local bounty of this county). We have five greenhouses/tunnels, a tractor, and 100 acres of hayfields, forest, ponds, and sandy beach - it's only a five minute walk from hard work in the field to a cool dip in the ocean! There are also two friendly horses on the farm, and most importantly.... very few bugs (thank goodness for that ocean breeze)!<br />

About the Position<br />
<br />
We are looking for an experienced individual to assist the Head Farmer with the 2015 growing season. This would involve all aspects of small farming, including transplant care, weeding, harvest, marketing, and so on. We will have several apprentices on the farm, however this is not an apprenticeship. If you are interested in apprenticing with us, please let us know as we have two positions available per year.<br />

Duration: Apprx 33 weeks, from early Apr to mid Nov. Flexible start and end date.<br />
<br />
Hours: 40 hours per week, 8AM-5PM Mon-Fri. Occasional weekend work.<br />
<br />
Wage: 10.30$/hr<br />
<br />
Housing: One room of a two bedroom house is available for 200$/mo. The house is located on the farm property, and accommodation will be shared with the farm apprentices.<br />
<br />
Food: The assistant farmer will be expected to provide for his or her own food, though farm vegetables will be available for free. Lunches during the work week will be provided.<br />
<br />
Mandatory Requirements:<br />
At least one season farming full time, either paid or an internship/apprenticeship.<br />
Must be able to legally work in Canada<br />
<br />
Desired Attributes:<br />
Ability to work in a team, as well as on one's own<br />
Strong communication skills and ability to explain tasks to apprentices/wwoofers<br />
Tractor experience (not essential)<br />
Able to lead apprentices and wwoofers in a variety of tasks<br />
Drivers license (not essential)<br />
Comfortable sharing a living space with other people<br />
