<b>Student researcher position 2015</b><br>
<br>
The researcher will:<br>
• Conduct research in the Port Joli Basin area under a program
determined<br>
by the student and his/her mentor<br>
• Collect and record data using the appropriate equipment,
database,<br>
spreadsheet, and other pertinent applications<br>
• Produce and present a report on his/her research<br>
• Assist in program administration and/or facilitating<br>
• Work with a diverse group of people<br>
• Communicate with program participants, potential donors, guests,
board of<br>
directors, and the general public<br>
• Maintain or oversee maintenance of dining/lecture/accommodation
areas<br>
• Assist in walking path maintenance<br>
• Oversee and participate in tasks relating to guests/participants
in programs<br>
• Participate in events promoting the HLC<br>
• Work with staff and/or HLC board of directors to fulfill the
mandate of the<br>
HLC<br>
• Other tasks as required<br>

<br>
<b>Preferred Qualifications:</b><br>
• driver’s license<br>
• ability to work unsupervised<br>
• skilled at dealing with a diverse group of people<br>
• interest in environmental stewardship<br>
• skilled in using tools and equipment<br>
• team player<br>
• attention to detail<br>
• any or all of first aid, WHMIS, and Occupational Health and
Safety training<br>
would be an asset.<br>

The Society operates an educational retreat, (HLC), for the
exploration and<br>
appreciation of the natural history and rural heritage of Nova
Scotia through<br>
instruction, research, literature, and the arts. We provide a base
for<br>
university field classes, provide instruction, provide meeting
space and<br>
accommodations for people exploring, studying, and researching the
flora<br>
and fauna of the Port Joli Basin area, encompassing federal and
provincial<br>
parks, NCC owned lands, NS Nature Trust owned lands, one of the
earliest<br>
CWS bird sanctuaries, and provincial Crown lands. HLC brings
people from<br>
Canada, U.S.A., and Europe to the area for art and recreation,
enhancing<br>
their appreciation of the province and this region.<br>
