Organization: Hope Blooms Inc.<br />
Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia<br />

Part time: 20 hrs. Per week<br />
Term: 8-month duration with possible extension<br />
<br />
Job Description: <br />
<br />
Reporting directly to the Executive Director, responsible for the design and facilitation of the youth and adult greenhouse program<br />
<br />
Responsible for:<br />
• Soil and nutrient management<br />
• Identification and organic management of plant pests<br />
• Optimization and management of water, light and temperature<br />
• Crop production plans<br />
• Composting<br />
• Design and delivery of innovative, engaging workshops with youth<br />
• Organizing and supervising a team of youth workers, volunteers, and junior leaders<br />
• Facilitating leadership workshops for youth in junior leader roles (1 time per week)<br />
• Delegating agricultural maintenance duties and taking lead responsibility in ensuring food production efficiency (including, crop planning, planting, fertilization scheduling, organic pest control, harvesting)<br />
• Collaborating with other community youth and food organization within Halifax to:<br />
• Make presentations to groups regarding program strategies and successes<br />
• Build relationships with families and other community members<br />
• Be available evenings and weekends as required<br />
<br />
Qualifications/experience: <br />
• Practical experience in organic horticultural production systems, both greenhouse and garden with knowledge/ interest in vertical farming/ hydroponics<br />
• Experience in facilitating workshops and other group-?learning formats<br />
• Outstanding communication skills: written, verbal and listening<br />
• Experience working with urban youth will be considered an asset<br />
• Interest in and commitment to the community social enterprise model will be considered an asset<br />
• Experience working with groups and ability to work in a fast-?paced environment<br />
• Ability to work un-?supervised and independently, as well as part of a team<br />
• Cultural competency (experience working in diverse communities)<br />
