Seeking: a passionate and energetic person to fill one of our two core coordinator positions in a busy social justice resource centre. Our core staff play a major role in all areas of the organization, and we're excited for this person to also bring vision for future growth!<br />

ABOUT THE NOVA SCOTIA PUBLIC INTEREST RESEARCH GROUP<br />
<br />
The Nova Scotia Public Interest Research Group (NSPIRG) is a resource centre based around social and environmental justice, within an anti-oppressive framework. NSPIRG is a student society at Dalhousie University and King's College, and our office is located in Room B24 of the Student Union Building at Dalhousie University. Our mandate is to link research to action and campus to community, within an anti-oppressive framework. We engage in campaigns, public education, and provide resources to the campus and community.<br />

JOB DESCRIPTION: RESOURCE & ADMINISTRATIVE COORDINATOR <br />
<br />
Our two core staff are responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing much of the work of NSPIRG. Both staff do a bit of everything. Of the two staff, this position is responsible for finances and bookkeeping, organizing book-able resources and the library, and a lot of the internal work.<br />
<br />
The following responsibilities are common and shared between the Outreach & Admin Coordinator and the Resource & Admin Coordinator:<br />
Ensure that all activities of NSPIRG are consistent with an anti-oppression mandate<br />
Maintaining regular office hours and general office management, and maintaining a welcoming office space<br />
Responsibility for about half of the NSPIRG core projects. These include: CURE, Rad Frosh, Underg(RAD) Journal, Research Projects, Reading Groups, Cinema Political Film Screenings, Workshops and Trainings, etc.<br />
Each staff will serve as the main support person for half of NSPIRG's working groups<br />
Attend and report at Board of Directors meetings<br />
Monitor and respond to email, phone and in person correspondence, manage the office space.<br />
Assist the Board in the coordination of board strategic planning, general meetings, opt-out periods and hiring processes<br />
Supervise part-time and contract staff<br />
<br />
The following responsibilities are fulfilled by the Resource and Administrative Coordinator:<br />
Financial bookkeeping, budgeting, and record keeping. Oversee payroll and staff contracts.<br />
Prepare financial reports and submit audits<br />
Organize funding grant disbursements from NSPIRG, and communication with grant recipients<br />
Insurance renewal and oversight<br />
Oversee resource acquisitions and general purchases<br />
Oversee, manage, and organize book-able resources and campaign supplies<br />
Manage, organize and promote the alternative resource library<br />
<br />
JOB REQUIREMENTS<br />
<br />
The following are required for this position:<br />
a demonstrated understanding of the principles & practice of anti-oppression, and how this related to coordinating a resource centre<br />
experience with financial bookkeeping for non-profits, OR the skills in Microsoft Excel and spreadsheets that would make learning this possible<br />
strong computer-based organizational skills<br />
strong written and verbal communication skills<br />
comfortable doing outreach with university students<br />
involvement and demonstrated experience in organizing around issues of social and environmental justice and grassroots community-led initiatives<br />
experience planning and facilitating workshops and trainings in social justice topics and/or organizing skills<br />
<br />
The following would be considered assets for this position:<br />
a demonstrated understanding of consensus based decision-making<br />
familiarity with Halifax community organizations, student organizations and the university environment<br />
experience in running issue-based and goal-driven campaigns<br />
knowledge of non-profit organization administration, including HR, staffing, and payroll, or policy writing<br />
experience managing radical libraries<br />
experience with non-profit boards of directors, governance, and strategic planning<br />
<br />
WAGE & HOURS<br />
<br />
This position requires 33 hours per week, and pays $17 per hour. Regular daytime office hours and occasional evening and weekend hours required. Two weeks vacation in summer & a December holiday break. Employee has access to Dalhousie's medical & dental benefits plans. Contract is for one year, with the opportunity for renewal.<br />
