Position: Organic Agriculture and Local Food Apprentice<br />

FBC has been maintaining 2.5 acres of certified organic gardens and orchards for 17 years. FBC hosts organic agriculture workshops annually, addressing local food production toward increasing food security in rural and urban communities. Workshop topics include: Shiitake mushrooms, garden planning, soil management, compost, seed starting, seed saving, harvest and preservation of food for winter storage, etc. You will be reinvigorating FBC’s organic education programming and maintaining a beautiful 2.5-acre organic garden and orchard!<br />

You are an excited, capable, and sustainability-minded individual. You are organized and efficient, and demonstrate excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills. However, you are also able to work independently and show remarkable drive and initiative. You are able to meet deadlines under pressure and produce deliverables outlined by your supervisor.<br />
<br />
Responsibilities: <br />
• On-site organic agriculture demonstration development, in conjunction with FBC staff and external partners<br />
• On-site maintenance of organic permaculture garden spaces<br />
• Development of educational resources and dissemination of resources<br />
• Facilitating on-site and community-based education projects, workshops, and local food events<br />
<br />
The OALF Apprentice will work closely with and report directly to the Communities and Local Foods Coordinator.<br />
<br />
Skills and Job Requirements: <br />
• Secondary education required.<br />
• English proficiency required. Bilingualism (English and French) is preferred.<br />
• First Aid and CPR-C training is an asset.<br />
• Summer apprentices must be able to travel to Fredericton, NB from Glassville, NB as necessary throughout the contract period. Accommodation in Glassville, NB will be made available at the staff discount.<br />

Eligibility: <br />
<br />
Applicants must have been enrolled in full-time studies at a secondary educational institution for the term immediately preceding their application (Winter 2016) and must be intending to return to full-time studies at an educational institution in the term immediately following the end of the contract (Fall 2016).<br />
